Sorin Royer Cooper, the small law firm formed in November to cater to emerging growth and middle market clientele, has opened a New York office and added a litigation capability.

The firm said the new location, its third along with its King of Prussia, Pa., headquarters and Princeton, N.J., is being launched to meet the needs of the firm’s New York-based communications, new media, venture capital, and private equity fund clients and to enhance and expand its offerings.

Joshua H. Epstein joins Sorin Royer as managing partner of the New York site and chair of litigation. He practiced at Hughes Hubbard & Reed and O’Sullivan Graev & Karabell before becoming general counsel of Solow Realty & Development Co. He returned to the private practice and was a partner with Mintz & Gold where his practice focused on complex litigation involving corporate transactions, business torts, real estate, and intellectual property. He regularly represents hedge funds, strategic investors, marketing communications firms, lenders and financial advisers. He brings with him another lawyer from the Mintz firm who will serve as counsel at Sorin Royer.

All of the firm’s lawyers have big firm experience and two have been general counsel of technology companies. Sorin Royer’s pitch is that it will represent software, communications, nanotech, alternative energy and life science companies with top talent for about half the cost of larger firms. The firm started last fall with eight lawyers and now has 13.
